We at MOMAC have installed some additional artwork as part of the Downtown Storefront Project. You can see these new works if you head down Roan Street near Main Street Pizza & Cakebuds. Ink Revolution Studios has graciously let us display in one of their Roan street windows. The two current featured artists are: Lecy Campbell and Julia Malcolm. Both artists are located here in the TriCities area. Julia Malcolm is owner of Artfix Studio. You can see more of her work here: Artfix Studio Lecy Campbell is owner of Drumboden Tiles. MOMAC studio's spring semester classes will be starting in January. As the holidays fly by, we hope to have our information out very soon so that you may take a look. Early enrollment will be available as well as some new & exciting opportunities to explore what MOMAC has to offer outside of classes. Art classes are a great addition to any course of learning. If you are new to MOMAC and would like to see the descriptions of this Fall's semester courses, please feel free to click over to our main website: MOMACstudio.com Our students have been listening to a variety of stories from different story genres like fairy tales, animal tales, how & why tales, and tall tales. They have been illustrating excerpts from these stories as teacher & owner LaDonna West read to them in class. This activity is part of our collaboration with the Storybook Fair, a local community organization geared toward helping close the gap on illiteracy. In addition, professional storytellers from The StoryBook Fair have been attending our classes and telling tales to the students. There is something really magical about having a live storyteller in the room who is not reading from a book, but telling you a story straight from their head. The energy is electrifying. Today and again on November 14th, MOMAC students will be on location with The Storybook Fair at East Tennessee State University. The storytellers will be performing live to a crowd while our students do interpretive illustrations. It's going to be lots of fun! More to come from the ETSU events, so stay tuned! MOMAC studio has started to take the lead with the Tennessee Community Crime Reduction Project's Downtown Storefront Project. We help keep vacant & non-vacant storefronts full of arts & crafts. Keeping a storefront vibrant and alive is crucial to keeping vandalism down & community spirit up. Beautifying downtown Johnson City is just part of the goal. We love sharing new artwork and artists with the community and hope that it brings a new appreciation for all the great work going on right here in Johnson City, Tennessee. |
