If you find yourself near the Johnson City Public Library, please take a look at the wonderful artwork of Cameron Poplarchik. Her Mother Goose illustrations have been printed on vinyl and wrapped onto the traffic control box at the corner of Fairview and North Roan streets in Johnson City. This project was in cooperation with the Public Art Committee and the city of Johnson City. The wonderful wrap was printed and installed by Stafford Custom Graphics of Jonesborough, Tennessee.
We are very proud of Cameron!

Cameron Poplarchik, age 13, has been working on a public art project under the guidance of her instructor, Sheri Earnhart, since fall 2016. The artwork is set to be printed on a vinyl wrap to be installed on a traffic control box located near the Johnson City Public Library at the corner of Fairview street and N. Roan street. The Public Art Committee and City Commission approved the project at last night's meeting.
The illustrations feature the character of Mother Goose and her friends on a journey to a floating library in the clouds. Cameron worked in acrylic paints on canvas board. She especially enjoys illustrating animals and considers Mother Goose a part of her childhood introduction to stories and reading. We are very excited for Cameron and will keep you updated on this project. We had a very successful art camp this year filled with visiting artists, trips to Founders Park and much, much more! Art camp was held downtown this year next door to the main part of the Hands On! museum.
Campers learned many things including painting animals, making masks and building 3D sculptures. We are so proud of our students. We had a great turnout for our Family & Togetherness end of semester show. Our students produced a large variety of 2D & 3D work culminating into a visual spectacular. Congratulations to all our students!
Our students are working hard on several very interesting projects this semester. Our MASCAP group will be completing pieces for display on the new Mountain States Health Alliance gallery wall located in the hospital cafeteria.
Our instructors have given them the themes: Peaceful, Calm, Togetherness and Family. Each student is working on his or her interpretation of one or several of these themes. They have been discussing the dynamics of the environment in which they are displaying their art and how these themes would fit into that space. Check back with us to see images of the new display. Art is scheduled to be displayed as early as March 1st. There is always something interesting happening each week at MOMAC studio. Stop on by and say hello to one of our staff or check out our Facebook page for upcoming events! 🎨
MASCAP is our MOMAC Advanced Student Community Art Program. This is a program which will give Junior High to High School students demonstrating more advanced artistic skills the opportunity to hone their craft and showcase their work in a more specialized setting. Students selected for the MASCAP program must submit a portfolio for evaluation by a panel of professional local artists & craftspeople before being approved for enrolling in the program.
The unique part of the program is that an array of local businesses and organizations will be the ones providing the content from which to work. Students enrolled in MASCAP will not only be in a position to receive more exposure for their work, but will gain professional knowledge of the field all while helping to serve and meet a need in the local community. Currently, Johnson City's Hands On Children's Museum is working with our students on a project creating directional hanging banners. These banners will point out different exhibits, their gift shop, restrooms etc. Students will strive to make their designs both creative & informative so that the viewers (museum visitors) will understand the information quickly. This project will be a great lesson in Graphic Design and will certainly give the students a great addition to their portfolios. Stay tuned for more updates from this exciting new MOMAC studio program! Our end of semester student art show opened yesterday at the Johnson City Public Library. There were refreshments provided by the library & our wonderful MOMAC parents. We also had our videographer, Mr. Buckner, present to document the occasion. The show includes two tables from Herrin-Miller Design graciously donated to help display work & also to be in a silent auction. All proceeds will benefit the library. Our students worked hard all semester & the culmination of that effort is obvious when you see the displays. Don't miss out! There's mixed media art galore as well as clay art. Don't be shy, come on out to the library! |
